Via VegasChatter, an interesting article on skill based slot gaming:
Skill-based slot machines aren’t entirely new. In 2007, Bally Technologies brought a skilled-based Pong slot machine to casinos. It wasn’t very popular. Casinos didn’t like it very much because the skill involved with the bonus rounds changed the payout schedule. Traditional slot machines are adhere to specific pay schedules and casinos like knowing exactly how much they’ll make from a machine. When you add skill to the mix that changes things.
It looks, however, as if skill-based slots may be getting another shot with casinos. IGT introduced a series of skill-based machines at G2E with bonus games where your video game skillz can make you money. Each game has a joystick so you can actually play a bonus round as long as you can stay alive. The anchor game to this series is the 80s classic, Centipede.
The slot machine itself is a traditional reel machine and above you’ll see a screen with a bonus round game. While the original Centipede was played with a roller ball controller, the slot machine game is controlled with a joystick. Gameplay appears to be similar from what we saw at G2E and the video below.
The skill-based games are still waiting for compliance approval so there is no timeframe on when we’ll see Centipede on the casino floors. We’re looking forward to dusting off our old school video game skillz so we can make a few bucks. We’ll keep an out for the release.
