Online Gaming News: Stardust – Coming Back Online …On Facebook

Via VegasChatter, a look at

The Stardust casino is making a comeback of sorts. You may remember Stardust in its physical form on the north end of the Vegas Strip in the 70s through the 90s. Well, Stardust is making a comeback online and, specifically, on Facebook.

It may seem strange at first, but if you’re an American, you won’t be able to take part in its comeback. For the time being, at least. When Boyd Gaming sold the property on the Vegas Strip where Stardust used to stand to Genting (which is now planning to build Resorts World Las Vegas on the site) they decided to keep ownership of the Stardust name. There were questions about why the name was saved, but now we know.

In conjunction with BWin.Party’s social gaming arm called WIN, Boyd Gaming has launched the Stardust Casino online. The social game will be free to play once it’s available. Unfortunately, the launch was made a little premature for Americans as the game is only available via Facebook in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. The United States version of the Stardust Casino will be available in a few months.

Hopefully our international friends will check out Stardust Casino and leave us some comments on how it plays (hint, hint).

In other online gaming news, there was a very interesting deal announced last week between 888 Holdings and Golden Gaming. This deal received preliminary approval by the state of Nevada and must be formerly approved on September 26. The agreement between these two companies would allow Golden Gaming customers to sign up to play online poker through a website run by Treasure Island. TI plans to launch their real-money online poker room, operated by 888, soon.

This is a big deal for Treasure Island since they’re an independently operated casino. The first of the new legal online poker websites, Ultimate Poker, allows players to sign up at any Station Casinos property. Before this agreement came to the forefront, there would have only been one place for TI players to sign up to play. However, Golden Gaming brings more than 40 bars and casinos, including PT’s and Sierra Gold taverns, to the table.

WSOP has been saying that their real-money online poker room will launch before the end of summer so we should expect TI’s poker launch some time after that. Online gaming continues to grow even though there are limited opportunities allowed today. Expect to hear more announcements about online gaming when G2E (the Global Gaming Expo) begins in two weeks.
