One Person’s Definition of the Gaming ‘Holy Grail’
July 29th, 2007
Had an opportunity to review a copy of Paul Heydon’s (Managing Director, Avista Partners) presentation from the Casual Games Association conference in Seattle earlier this month.  I was most interested in Mr. Heydon’s definition of the ‘Holy Grail’ of gaming, a mash-up of the following attributes that he felt could deliver 100 million registered users:
- Website that features a casual mass-market focused MMO with great game play, interactivity, customization, VOIP capability, and user generated content (games, videos of game play, and avatars).Â
- Plus a simple way to make friends, find friends, and play with friends.
- Mix of different types of advertising, including both onsite banners and in-game promos or product placement.
- mySpace + Skype + YouTube + MapleStory + HabboHotel = Holy Grail
Not much to disagree with here, especially if you consider the mySpace and YouTube components above to comprise some lifestreaming aspects as well.
